Morning Musings… 9

The early morning thought about the importance of education in life. Lately have been meeting parents of my students and sometimes I am in a situation where I don’t know how to react!😀

Some parents want their kids to do still better than they have done. You can imagine a student scoring 39 on 40 in Science and the mom asking where have you lost that 1 mark? The other type is that chill relax you have bored 20 on 40 and bettered your score than last time. Dont take pressure, it’s ok. There is a third type which is disinterested as they do not understand even a bit of Educatiin but want their child to educated as they didnt get that oppurtunity in their childhood.

It might be intriguing for you my reader but I have got used to this. Every parent is caring and thinks for betterment of their child. But in the race for excelling, do we, as parents not over burden our child? Don’t we sometimes dump our expectations, which we couldn’t fulfill, on the child? The fear of my child losing out in the world is the greatest and that has led is to a dangerous crossroads where there is a possibility that the relations with my child can be strained!

Being a teacher, I don’t undermine the value and place of education in our lives but at the same time I want to say that it is not the only thing. I always like this saying

जब दंत न थे, तो दुध दिए, अब दंत दिए तो अन्न न दे?

When we didnt have the teeth, He gave us milk and now when we have teeth, will we not trust Him to give us food?

Education is not for a career or earning money but it is for character development. Education means to draw out. To draw out the values hidden within. So let us, as parents, be a bit more patient with our kids.

Let us create a dialogue between each member of the family to create harmony in life, family, society, nation and the world as a whole.
